Job Summary:

The Line Haul Engineer works with Operations to develop, implement, and deploy optimized line haul lanes to support on-time network for the company. Move volume in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner. Assist others in understanding and utilizing all resources to further enhance the most efficient method of moving parcel and freight volume. Analyze parcel and freight flow data and make recommendations for improvement to maximize usage of equipment and line haul lanes. The Line Haul Engineer assists in new and special reengineering projects and takes a lead role in the planning and execution of large project implementations and training initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create, measure, and analyze line haul lanes for optimization.
  • Develops and analyzes current line haul plans to determine opportunities for improving utilization of trailer capacity within the network.
  • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines/goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Prepare forecasts and analyzes trend to build network plans for future line haul lane growths and requirements including equipment needs.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen & TQM continuous improvement programs and techniques, such as Lean and Six Sigma; Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Develops work measurement to optimize operating planning and financials.
  • Develops and coordinates solution to support operational needs for sort requirements of volume availability and dispatch times.
  • Develop continuous improvement initiatives including evaluation of current operations, data analysis, and implementation of recommended solutions.
  • Conducts operations forecasting with field engineers for staffing, assets, and facility needs to ensure service commitments are met.
  • Maintains self-development, ongoing communications, and reporting with cross-functional departments.
  • Identifies issues that require training or re-training to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness across all operations including Inbound, Outbound, Hub, and Line Haul.
  • Provides training to management for implementation of new procedures, processes, services and technology; coordinates with process writers to create training documents.
  • Assumes project management responsibilities involving line haul cross-functioning impact projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Independent self-starter who consistently demonstrates initiative and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing processes, improving service lanes, and achieving unit-cost reductions.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Teamwork skills in resolving problems, discussing issues, and clearly communicating potential solutions/results to wage employees as well as upper management.
  • Demonstrates strong skills in interpersonal communications, composition, and creative writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access; SQL, Databases and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of transportation industry processes, procedures, and methods.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management or related field required.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in Line Haul/Industrial Engineering or similar role in logistics environment Preferred
