Health Safety Environment Manager:

Manages and oversees all Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management for GLS US Operations. Safety Manager will ensure the company is in compliance with federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental and risk management laws and regulations. Ensure a cohesive partnership with operations and our European parent company. Implement an ongoing safety program that includes DOT, FMCSA, CalOsha and OSHA regulations. Assist in the evaluation, identification, risk hazards and root cause analysis, to improve the workplace. Lean Certification is highly desirable.

  • Ensure compliance with multiple state regulations and the company requirements
  • Report and manage safety concerns, accidents (workers compensation and general liability) and align it with company compliance program and initiatives.
  • Manage the monthly reporting and KPI's to Sr. Leadership
  • Oversee the Fleet Mentor database
  • Conduct OSHA and DOT Compliance audits
  • Communicate and provide guidance to Regional operations leadership and staff
  • Partner with all levels of the operation and provide guidance on new regulations
  • Continue implementing and updating communicable disease protocols, policies and procedures
  • Update and maintain Injury, Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP)
  • Schedules and coordinates facility evacuations and develop action plans to address opportunities
  • Insures all environmental, health and safety related reports are prepared accurately and timely (ie: OSHA log, accident/incident analysis and evacuations
  • Ensure Forklift Certifications and Hazmat training is completed during new hire process and annually
  • Oversee driver DQ files to ensure compliance
  • Ensure drivers have current medical cards and driver's licenses are valid
  • Oversee Employer Pull Notice program
  • Respond and provide support to operations for BIT inspections
  • Review training programs annually and update for compliance
  • Prepare and distribute safety topics and training on at east a monthly basis
  • Identify improvement opportunities and support the continuous improvement process
  • Oversee claims management processes for injuries and incidents
  • Oversee Automated Event Recorder system (AER) for drivers and provide coaching to drivers
  • Oversee DOT random and post-accident drug screen process
  • Primary contact for Regulatory Agencies
  • Works with purchasing department for company wide safety programs to ensure consistency at all locations
  • Ensure all new locations have all safety measure in place before employees start working onsite.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene or related field, preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience managing HSE for a logistics company (Parcel & Freight) in an operational or functional support role, required
  • 1-3 years of warehouse/distribution/logistics experience, preferred
  • Industrial Hygiene (CIH), preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), preferred
  • Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), preferred
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 courses, preferred
  • FMCSA Clearing House compliance
  • Commercial driving experience, preferred
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast pace dynamic environment with tight deadlines
  • Computer literacy at high level to include Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service driven for internal and external clients
  • Strong collaborator with peers and a team player
  • Travel up to 50%
