Position Summary

The Human Resource Assistant is responsible to assist on administrative duties for the HR team. This position must possess and maintain a high-level of professionalism, ability to work in a corporate setting, willingness to learn, high attention to detail, and take ownership of their role. They must be able to manage multiple tasks or projects with strict deadlines; the ability to prioritize effectively; have strong follow-up skills; and use time efficiency in a fast-paced environment. Supports multiple departments as assigned, such as payroll, HRIS, Recruiting, Benefits, Reports, Training and Leaves. Must exemplify the company Core Values and strive to reach our slogan "We take it personally". Maintain a positive attitude, be internal customer centric, maintain positive customer relations and high confidentially.

What you'll do

  • Acts as a representative of the Company and the HR department by setting the example in all areas of conduct, professionalism and adherence to policy.
  • Assists Benefits Administrator on projects or employee communication with newly eligible employees.
  • HRIS: Tracks and administers New Hire processing, pay changes, promotions and status changes HRIS/payroll system for the Freight division.
  • Unemployment: Processes and responds to Unemployment Claims, Employment Verifications and Record Requests for Freight division
  • Assists with miscellaneous requests and projects as assigned by the HR Director and Sr. HR Manager
  • Provide administrative assistance to the HR functions which includes creating, maintaining and up-dating documents, reports and records.
  • Maintain and create spreadsheets, including developing, entering, formatting, printing information, filing, and archiving in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  • Maintain and oversee creating electronic payroll and personnel files for Freight division.
  • Responsible for working with Leadership to maintain positive relations and assist in solving people concerns.
  • Prepare various reports as requested.
  • Assist Leave and Compliance Manager on projects and Leave programs.
  • Assist Benefit Administrator with annual open enrollment process, as requested.
  • Coordinate and administer team member events and activities.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect operations by keeping HR information confidential.
  • Ensure compliance with existing state and federal government employment laws.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending education seminars/workshops; reviewing publications.
  • Assist Recruiting team with job fairs/career events to promote employment opportunities and attract talent.
  • Administrator employee communications through Community board.
  • Assist in creating training documents, job aids and training manuals for HR, Payroll and Safety processes
  • Assist with other HR team members to identify best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Other duties as required and assigned


  • Experience with HRIS Systems and Talent Acquisition Systems (Paylocity and ApplicantPro) are a plus
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in an HR Assistant role
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs dictate
  • AA Degree preferred
  • Experience providing HR support in a logistics environment ~ Preferred
  • Experience balancing virtual and in-person HR support
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge, influence and build collaborative relationships, to exemplify direct, open, honest behaviors, and to influence these qualities in others
